The project consists in the extension of the residence for a musicians' family. The original building is located in an hystorical town close to Garda Lake, placed between the boundary of the village and the surrounding vineyards. This new volume is designed to fit in an old private courtyard, directly connected to the garden. Rural architecture inspired the shape, based on a simple volume with a sloping roof, and the use of raw materials like wood, concrete and cotto. Outside, a concrete basement separates the volume from the ground. The wooden facades dialog with the surrounding vineyards and at the same time make the new volume recognizable from the existing building. Inside, the design focused on the re-organization of the existing spaces while the new extension contains a room to play and teach music.
This project is about the dialogue between old and new, both for the building and for the interiors or furniture. For the facade of the new addition wood and concrete and terracotta have been chosen to express the connection with the garden and green surroundings. For the furniture, materials like metal and terrazzo for the kitchen top create a dialogue between the client's personal taste -his love for antique furniture- and the new contemporary elements of the house.
